One best way to save money on grocery and petrol bills

 In My Lifehacks

Sydney is one of the expensive cities of Australia. The standard of living is high compared to other cities and I don’t want bring the facts from Google. Mr. Google can provide you that information easily. I want to bring my experience to you:

We are a family of four, full time working parents and two cheeky and naughty kids of age 5 and 1.  You might find the same, when both wife and husband are working and having kids, one doesn’t really realize how much they are spending on groceries, petrol, clothing, food etc. We were the same, two years ago, one day I asked my husband how much we spend on petrol and groceries every week and he said about $220. I was like is there any way I can cut down these costs organically. One way I thought  to buy when the groceries are on sales and petrol at cheap price.

We have tried doing it but soon we realized that we were not good at it with our busy schedule.

Then I came across this website called Cashrewards’; that looked fantastic. They have deal for every band ranging from ebay to super markets.

There I found the savings of 5% on Woolworth’s card. This is where most of our grocery shopping is done. I was bit excited after looking at it. I told the same to my husband. He said let us try first for $20, we did it and felt good about it. We never looked back; we started buying it on regular basis for groceries and soon extended to petrol and Toys/clothing (Big W). After a month, we started to realize the savings in petrol, groceries and toys/clothing. Now we realize more savings as my little one has more expenses on formulae, nappies and other baby stuff. One more good thing about this purchase is no need to carry a card, you can use from your email inbox. We usually save it as a photo and use the codes as necessary.

Below is a list of expenses and savings we make:

Expense Weekly Exp(Avg) eGift Card Yearly savings
Groceries 100 5 260
Petrol 100 5 260
Toys/Clothing, other from Big W 30 1.5 78
Formulae, baby stuff 40 2 104
Total 220 11 702

These are our average and regular expenses that we spend on weekly basis. We finally saved $702 on yearly basis ie $58.5 on monthly basis. That’s amazing isn’t it? Alcohol is not added (we don’t drink it) if you add another $20 a week ie another $52 savings on yearly basis. You save more than $700 a year just for nothing. Apart from this, we spent at other stores like Myers, Target by using Cashrewards

This helps every family and the savings can be used for better use or good cause depending on your priorities.
