Are you planning to migrate to Australia? Or just finished your graduation?  And wanting to secure a high demand job. Then this is for you.

I know it helps a lot especially when you have skills in the most demanding job. There are many benefits attached to it as well like on the job training, generous pay and other benefits depending on the company.

Would you like to know what jobs are in demand in Australia?  Hays, a renowned Job consultancy firm through their survey with employers have jotted down the jobs that are in high demand. They all relate to 28 industries.

According to Hays Jobs Report, the jobs in demand are as below

#1 Accounting and Finance: I personally know what jobs are in demand in this field, because, I have been working in accounting for over 15  years. I am not surprised by the survey results.

There is high demand for Finance Managers and Financial Controllers, Finance Business Partners, Senior Auditors.

Business services intermediate and seniors, Auditors and Insolvency Administrators and seniors are in high demand.

 

Not only in Australia but there is also high demand for Accountants across the world. So, studying Accounting may benefit you to secure a wonderful job in the future.

 

#2  Architecture: The demand is high for REVIT Architects, Interior Designers and Landscape Architects, REVIT Technicians and those with aged care project experience.

 

#3 Banking: Banks have a strong impact on the economy. There is more scope for Business Development Managers, Brokers and qualified Financial Planners in this area.

 

#4 Construction: For the second half of 2019 and 2020, the vacancy activity in construction remains positive although the hotspots of skills in demand do vary by location. 

Victoria: The construction market remains high due to infrastructure projects such as the Melbourne Metro Rail and also increased activity in commercial construction. Hence, construction professionals at all levels are in demand such as Design Engineers, Delivery Engineers and Construction Engineers.

Queensland: Demand for construction professionals in commercial, Rail, Transport and Main Roads. This is due to the projects held at various locations within the state and so demand for Project Managers with 10 years of experience, Site Engineers with two years of experience and Project Engineer with more at least five years of experience.

Turning to the residential market, insurance builders continue to look for strong Site Supervisors and Estimators.

Perth: Due to continuous mining projects, there is a continual demand for construction and engineering professionals. It is a good place to gain local experience for migrant professionals and kick start their career for young professionals. Currently, Metronet rail project has commenced and so demand for professionals with rail background. Apart from Project Managers, Supervisors, Contract Administrators and Estimators, Civil Engineers, the demand started to rise for Mechanical Engineers and Site Engineers with commercial construction backgrounds to work in hotel, apartment, large scale shopping centres and mixed-use building projects.

Adelaide: Civil construction market will remain strong in 2021 with a number of large scale projects creating demand for Project Managers, Site Managers and Civil Estimators. Northern Territory: Darwin is showing a downturn with several key projects coming to an end. However, there is a demand for Project Managers and Site Managers for defence lead roles. Tasmania: This state has strong economic growth in recent years and so the need for growth in infrastructure. This ensures ongoing demand for Project Managers and Contract Administrators.

Canberra: This state has a continuous demand for Project Managers with large scale commercial experience and Site Engineers, Project Engineers and Contract Administrators for health, education and infrastructure projects. New South Wales: With the increase in the number of infrastructure development, Commercial, transport, road and rail projects, there is a demand for Sales Estimators, Production Estimators, Contract Administrators, Site Managers with large scale projects. 

 

 

#5 Contact Centres: Demand exists for Customer Service Agents with digital customer engagement experience, Team Leaders and Real Time Analysts and Workforce Planners.

 

#6 Digital Technology: There is always demand for developers across the world. Australia has high demand for Full Stack .Net Developers, Full Stack Java Developers, Front-end JavaScript Developers and Azure/AWS Developers.

 

#7 Education: There is incredible demand for child care centres. I had to wait for 10 months to get full-time admission to the child care centre for my elder daughter. There are very few child care centres to serve the demand. So, there is high demand for Early Childhood Teachers, Certificate III and Diploma Educators, OOSH (Out of School Hours) Coordinators and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Teachers.

 

#8 Energy: Demand exists for Project Managers with experience managing large wind or solar construction projects and Schedulers and Planners.

 

#9 Engineering: If the construction is in demand, automatically the engineers will be in demand. Civil Engineers and Civil Drafters are much needed along with Modelling and Water Engineers.

 

#10 Facilities Management: The Technical Project Managers, Facilities Managers with multi-site portfolio experience and technically-minded Facilities Coordinators are sought.

 

#11 Healthcare: Australia has high demand for Aged Care health care services.As per Australian Bureau of Statistics, by 2051, there is almost half the population would be older than 50 years. So the demand for Aged care Registered Nurses.

Apart from this, demand for Child Protection Practitioners, Social Workers within domestic violence and homelessness services, NDIS Support Coordinators, Allied Health Clinical Managers and aged care Registered Nurses are all sought.

I also observe there is high demand for clinical coders. We had to recruit a clinical coder for one of our audits and paid a fortune for 4 weeks project. It is hard to find good and experienced clinical coders.

 

#12 There is demand for HR Business Partners, HR Analysts and Organisational Change & Development professionals.

 

#13 Information Technology: Jobs in big data are increasing. This involves slicing and dicing data in different ways to understand consumer behaviour and many more.

As of December 2020, the top jobs in demand are Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Data analysts with experience in SQL, R or Python and data visualization tools. Having data experience with Hadoop is advantageous. The demand for these jobs continues until the companies looking to solve problems and more informed decisions through better utilisation of their data. 

Cloud Engineers and Cloud Architects with AWS, Google or Azure experience, Cyber Security professionals with an elastic skillset and UX/UI Designers are in demand. Cyber Security is enormously in demand because security threats become more prevalent and sophisticated.

 

#14 Legal has high paid jobs. There is demand for Construction & Property Lawyers. Along with litigation and family law.

 

#15 Life Sciences: Demand is high for Medical Science Liaisons with field and hospital sales experience, Clinical Research Associates and Regulatory Affairs professionals.

 

#16 Logistics: There is demand for Transport Allocators, Warehouse Managers and Supervisors and Import and Export Coordinators.

 

#17 Field Service Technicians, Engineering Drafters, Production Managers and Engineering Managers with technology and robotics experience are needed in Manufacturing & Operations.

 

#18 There is demand for Heavy Diesel Fitters, Boilermakers, Electricians and Geologists in certain locations.

 

#19 Marketing & Digital: Digital world is increasing day by day, so the demand for Digital Project Managers, Content Managers and Writers, Data Insight Managers and Hybrid Marketing Managers are all sought.

 

#20 Office Support: There is demand for Executive and Personal Assistants who possess good communication, computer, presentation and people management. The quality candidates in this area are highly sought.

 

#21 Oil & Gas: Given the focus on maintenance, Boilermakers, Welders, Operators, Fitters and HPU Technicians are sought.

 

#22 Demand exists for procurement officers and procurement managers with a strategic focus.

 

#23 Projects & Business Change: Business Analysts are sought across varied industries, as are Project Managers with digital exposure and Change Managers.

 

#24 Property: Commercial Client Side Project Managers with fitout experience, Industrial Property Managers, Centre and Retail Managers and Residential Property Managers are needed.

 

#25 Resources & Mining: Heavy Diesel Fitters, Boilermakers, Electricians and Geologists are needed in certain locations.

 

#26 Retail: Retail professionals with digital development and marketing expertise are required, as are Store Managers with experience implementing change and Merchandise Planners.

 

#27 Business Development Managers with experience in sales are highly sought.

 

#28 Trades & Labour: There is high demand for skilled carpenters. Plumbers are in very high demand. A good plumber almost earns the equal amount of a doctor. Their fee is incredibly high because of the shortage. So too are Concreters and Advanced Riggers. 

You may be qualified in one of the above professions, but securing a job may be hard. It is just because qualification is not only important these days, qualification with skills are preferred by employers. Try to gain good computer skills, negotiation and communication skills.

    At the moment I’m international student doing commercial cookery and on the list there is no hospitality that make me sad and worry 😖

      Don’t worry Elizabeth, the above are in demand jobs. It does not mean the others skills are not preferred.It all depends on skills and your experience.
      This lists keep changing. so be confident and finish your study.
