Top 5 distractions to stay away for successful completion of studies in Australia

 In Student Corner

Studies need concentration and dedication to complete them on time to settle in your career life. We would be very happy if this was an easy process, practically not, we as a student would be really careful during the study year. We came to a different country, studying in a different culture and meeting new people. These all may change you in a good, bad or ugly way. So making aware of the hurdles and their implications are more important than feeling bad once the life is out of our control.  I tried to bring some distractions that you might be aware but not thought about their consequences of misuse or over using them

Social Media Websites:

New phone, new place and new clothes; these are enough for posting new photos on Facebook, twitter or instagram. This is good up to a certain point. Even if you do them after your studies have started, then something is going to go wrong in the future. To have a bright future, just focus on completing your studies. Try to manage your time more productively rather than wasting on unimportant chats or group discussions.

Plan yourself how long you are going to be on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and stick to it.  One more easy way is, first finish your important tasks before jumping onto social media; this gives you peace of mind. Especially girls should be careful while using this media and avoid strangers as friends.

Gambling:

Gambling is legal in Australia. You can get into Casino and start playing various betting games. I have visited Star City (Casino) once in Sydney with my colleagues. It was very dazzling with lights and people betting around the tables. It looks very colourful and there are very good chances of getting addicted to it. But I didn’t really enjoy the ambience as my body was trembling by looking at those people and the way they were betting. May be I was an exception to this environment. But some of them enjoy visiting again and again to this place to prove their luck.

I strongly believe the luck comes to you only through hard work and sincere efforts. So don’t ever step into that place expecting that you win ‘something’.  If you feel like betting; just run a scroll of financial commitments you have like paying your bills, accommodation, University fee etc in your mind. This would definitely restrict you from that activity.

Mobile Phones:

Almost everyone in a country like Australia uses smart phones and students are not an exception to this. As an overseas student, you are not exempt either. Now-a-days, there are numerous apps available to talk, chat and video calling/chat. Too much of anything is bad for us. These days nobody could imagine themselves of walking out the door without having a phone in their hand.

When I initially came to Australia in the year 2006, I used to watch university students converse each other and general public used to read physical papers or books. But, now- a -days, everyone is using their smart phone/ipads as a one piece product for every purpose. This proves that how much mobile phone has crept into our daily lives.

As a student you might get distracted with new apps/gadgets and what not with the technology. So be careful and try to control your phone/gadgets rather it controls you. Allocate some time for studies every day and keep away your phones/gadgets while you are doing this activity. Otherwise, it is easy to distract yourself and always remember Australia has given you an opportunity to study here if you don’t do well, you will be sent home without any consideration.

Virtual Games:

This is another distractor to lose your concentration. Many of us start with one level of game thinking to stop after completing two levels. But it keeps continuing until you reach 15 levels. It kills your time very quickly. So be careful and if you think you are addicted to the game, just delete the game from your mobile/television.

Don’t think about it at all, if you want to relax or bored, go for a walk or talk to a friend or watch an inspirational video. This gets you back into the track.

Bad companion:

A bad friend can turn your life into a disaster. We meet many co-students come from various lifestyle, cultures and traditions. Try to choose them carefully as a friend. Always a good friend is the one who guides you in the right direction and aim to achieve the purpose. If you think you are surrounded by a bad companionship, slowly avoid them and move to a place of your interest without any conflicts.
